My primary medium is cloth: silk, cotton and rayon. Each piece begins as white fabric. By layering dyes, textile paints, and stitching I explore colors in a child like manner. The layering of textures, colors and shapes, one on top of another, begins to tell a story of our very lives. As the cloth begins to come alive, directing what path I am to follow next, it reveals the very soul of my being, not static, but reaching out softly to touch the viewer.

I make one-of-a-kind children's clothing, accessories, & toys from previously-loved clothing or rescued textiles & yarns. I like the layers of energy that is created by each person who has ever touched the cloth, making it more precious. As we go forward in time on Earth, more people will find that they too are attracted to such things, not only for the energy, but for the conservation of our limited resources. My family's legacy was giving me the gifts of sewing & knitting. As I create I imagine the happiness of the object's recipient. I imagine all my grandmothers' hands guide mine.

Lisa Kerpoe
Through my work, I strive to share my fascination with the beauty of our physical world and the mystery of our spiritual nature. I use a variety of white fabrics as my canvas, including silk, rayon, linen and cotton. Through a combination of intention and intuition, I dye, handpaint, discharge, screenprint, stitch and bead the fabrics to create my work.

I consistently use symbols from diverse religions and nations in my artwork, while keeping the integrity of their original meanings. In combining elements of Eastern and Western symbols, I create new symbols to achieve a harmonious union. I see artwork as an instrument of peace for uniting opposing views and representing an optimistic future. My work projects the same universal yearnings for peace and joy that are changeless over time in any country.
The symbols I create show how life is connected. Through different media, shapes, colors, and techniques, my art leads people to reflect on the transience of life and to appreciate the world around them.

Laurie Brainerd
I quilt because I love the transformation the fabric takes both visually and tactilely. I am able to play with color in an intense way with the fabric choices and yet also express subtle elements with the tone-on-tone quilting. Both the process and the end-product are enhanced when I am able to be present with making and executing design choices.
